While carpets have a lot of functionality, they are also an absolutely aesthetic item to have in your home. However, accidents and spills are common in any household, and in case you drop grease on your beautiful carpets, you don’t need to worry about getting new carpets anymore. Here are some of the best methods of getting grease out of carpet.  

How to remove grease from the carpet using baking soda

One of the most accessible and most inexpensive ways to remove grease from your carpets is to use baking soda, because of its absorbent qualities. Here is how you can use it:  

  1. Take some baking soda and sprinkle it directly over the grease on your carpet. Sprinkle it generously, and don’t worry about using too much of the product, as baking soda can be excellent in absorbing the grease and oil and helping you remove it from your carpet. 
  2. Take a clean cloth and rub the baking soda into the carpet, so that it really brings out all of the greases from the carpet fibers. Do not use excessive pressure while doing this. However, you can apply some pressure so that the baking soda can really penetrate into the carpet fiber. Allow the baking soda to absorb the oils for about 15 minutes. 
  3. Using a vacuum cleaner, clean up the baking soda from your carpet, after you see that it has set correctly and the grease and oils absorb into the powder. 
  4. Finally, take a small bowl and create a mixture of warm water and dishwashing soap. You can even use a laundry detergent that is specifically made to remove grease stains. Pour this solution directly on to the carpet where the grease stains are, and rub it in using a toothbrush or a sponge. 
  5. Immediately blot up the soapy residue using a clean, dry sponge or a clean cloth. 
  6. Lastly, allow the carpet to dry completely, and then repeat the process if you need to.

How to remove grease from the carpet using rubbing alcohol

Another excellent method that you can use to remove tough grease stains from your carpets is to use rubbing alcohol as a degreasing agent. Here is how you can do it: 

  1. You need to be extremely careful while using a highly flammable substance like rubbing alcohol, so keep your room well ventilated while doing this and make sure you are wearing protective gloves as well. 
  2. Take a clean, dry cloth or a paper towel and pour a small amount of rubbing alcohol directly on it. 
  3. Using the cloth or paper towels, apply pressure on the grease stains on your carpet, gently blotting up the stains as you are doing so. You do not need to rub, but instead, apply pressure and use a blotting technique to pick up the grease from the fibers of the carpet. 
  4. Continue doing it till you are happy with the results and you have can remove most of the grease from the carpet. If some stains still persist, you can use the soap water solution to remove it. 
  5. Take a small bowl and create a soapy solution using dishwashing soap and hot water. 
  6. Take an old toothbrush and dip it into this solution. Use the toothbrush to rub the grease stains out of the carpet, and allow the area to dry completely. If you want, you can even run a hairdryer over the area to dry it quickly. 

How to remove grease from the carpet using salt or artificial sweetener 

A unique but effective method to remove the grease stains from your carpet fibers is to use common household salt or a pack of artificial sweeteners. It ensures that the grease does not set into the fibers of your carpet and you can remove it with ease. Here is how you can do it: 

  1. As soon as you see the grease stains on your carpet, take some salt or artificial sweetener and pour it directly over the greasy area on your carpet. The powder will ensure that the grease does not set in, making it easier to remove from your carpet.
  2. Take an old toothbrush or any other brush and rub off the powder from your carpet after about 10 minutes. 
  3. Take a small bowl and add any grease-cutting dishwashing soap into it, along with hot water, and mix it well to create your cleaning solution. You can put this into a spray bottle, or you can directly pour it over your carpet. 
  4. Using an old toothbrush, gently scrub the grease stains on your carpet to remove it altogether. 
  5. Take a damp cloth and wipe off all the excess soapy water solution from your carpet thoroughly. 
  6. Now, allow your carpet to dry completely, or use a hairdryer to dry that area of your carpet. 

How to remove grease from the carpet using vinegar and dishwashing soap

Here is another excellent homemade solution that you can use to remove the stubborn grease stains out of your carpet. Here is how you can do it: 

  1. Take some paper towels and immediately blot out all the excess grease from your carpet. Make sure that you do not rub, as it might deposit the grease even further into the fabric. 
  2. Take a bowl and add 2 cups of warm water. Now, mix one tablespoon of white distilled vinegar and another tablespoon of dishwashing soap into it and mix it well to create a solution. 
  3. Dip a sponge into this solution and use it to dab at the grease stains gently. Allow it to soak for about 5 minutes. 
  4. Taking the sponge once again, blot out as much of the grease stains as you can from the carpet. 
  5. Get another clean, dry cloth and soap it in cold water. Wring out the excess water from the cloth and use it to wipe out the cleaning solution from your carpet thoroughly. 
  6. In case there are any persistent stains on your carpet, repeat the entire process once again, and allow your carpet to dry naturally.
